The University of Minho (UMinho) is a vibrant young Portuguese university which was founded in 1973 and started its academic activity in 1974. It has two campi – Gualtar Campus and Azurém Campus – located in two charming cities – Braga and Guimarães.

Its quality has been consistently recognised by several recent rankings:

The Times Higher Education One Hundred Under 50 Ranking, which looks into 400 universities, placed UMinho as the 1st Portuguese University and 75th in the world.
The Times Higher Education World University Ranking aimed at identifying the 500 best universities in the world identified, for the second year running the UMinho as one of just two Portuguese Universities.

The CWTS Leiden Ranking, which assesses the scientific performance of 750 major universities worldwide placed UMinho in 1st position in Portugal, 3rd position in the Iberian Península  and 172nd position in Europe.

The University of Minho was the first Portuguese university to publish its sustainability report and, since 2010, has been reporting a wide range of indicators related to its environmental, economic and social performance, with the participation of the academic community.
